“May The Odds Be Ever In Your Favor”

The Hunger Games takes place in America in a post-war society that was demolished by an uprising of oppression that was then separated into 10 districts. Each year, the Hunger Games are held as a remembrance of this war by sending 2 members, one male and one female, into an arena where the Hunger Games are held. The Hunger Games is as vicious as the name sounds and is truly a battle till the death until one surviving member is left standing. The surviving member is then taken back home to where they are treated like royalty and are provided a house for the rest of their lives. The Hunger Games is truly a barbaric notion for a government to uphold however, it is possible that the U.S. future could consist of a society where oppression is common by a controlling “district” made for the riches, such as the Capital. It is also possible that the origins for this set up could be an occurrence in the not-so-distant future of America. As a society we are very opinionated and are often looking for “solutions” to our current situation; whether it be our economic standing, political, or even societal values, we often search for a better. It would not be unheard of to have a changed government, one that is possibly worse off than ours of Democracy right now. It would also not be unheard of to have our society, after the fall of Democracy, become desperate for entertainment (similar to the Capital) and begin a death match, such as the Hunger Games. It is possible that our society could slowly evolve into a barbaric mass of sacrifices and oppression, as it is not uncommon for different, strong-standing societies to slowly disintegrate into unusual behaviors in the name of change.
